On the opposite wall a magnificent Gothic pulpit stands out, carved in 1396 by Antonio da Mestre and enriched with frescoes by Martino da Verona. Inside, at the centre, there is a Crucifixion surmounted by a richly decorated wooden spire and flanked on either side by two statues of the Archangel Gabriel and the Madonna, depicting the scene of the Annunciation.
All around, on both the left and right, we can admire frescoes depicting doctors of the Church, prophets and illustrious figures. At the top, on the left, we can see Moses on Mount Sinai and, on the right, Elijah on a chariot of fire, echoing how Saint Francis was often linked to these prophetic figures in that era. The work was donated to the Franciscans by the jurist Barnaba da Morano, who also commissioned the same artists to create his own tomb, which is to be found in the adjacent chapel.
