At the beginning of the right nave, the Master of the Redeemer frescoed scenes on several levels from one of the most popular Franciscan stories in Verona at the time, relating events from the early fourteenth century.
According to tradition, in 1321 in Thane, India, four Franciscan friars were martyred after refusing to recognise Muhammad as the Messiah. The fresco shows what happened next: in the upper panel, the friars appear in a dream to the judge who condemned them, brandishing flaming swords; in the lower register, the Indian sultan condemns the judge and his family to death for the killing of the Franciscans.
